15 years ago today we started this Rebus site. As far as we know it was the first online rebus generator, now there are many 😀. To celebrate our 15th anniversary, we have two exciting pieces of news:

  • Better results for long words: We dig even deeper to find the perfect images, and it's still super fast!
  • No more annoying ads! Maybe it will come back later, but is ad-free for the time being 🎉!!!

Today we have a special update: use the position of the characters in relation to each other. Sounds complicated, but is relatively easy. Take a look at the following example where characters are on top of each other, or inside each other:

C / C
N / G
The word here is "C on C er N in G", concerning. Another nice example is Constantinople.

Does this work with all character combinations, you might ask? No, training was done on the complete works of Shakespeare, so if he didn't write a word containing "XonY" we won't write it as a "X on Y rebus" either.

Rebuses with numbers in them didn't really give a good result so far. This is different now: numbers are written out and made into a rebus. For example, 678 becomes "six hundred seventy-eight" and the rebus looks like this:

 + y-+

This only works for English and Dutch for the moment.

November 17th, 2020

Five new languages supported: Turkish, Finnish, Polish, Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic.

December 3th, 2019

Added a language with about 250 million speakers: Portuguese.

November 24th, 2019

Instead of sharing pictures of a rebus, you can now also share a link to your rebus. Create a rebus and look at the hints to see how to do this.

November 12th, 2019

Many users asked about how to get the rebus on paper or copy-paste it in another document. Starting from today this is now super easy as there will be a download link below the rebus. There are no copyrights whatsoever, so you can do with the rebus whatever you want!
